We
started showing in 2005 with APRI. We love this organization because they have ultimately made
it impossible for politics to prosper. APRI uses 2 Judges and the dogs are judged individually against the breed standard. By each Judge. Each
Judge uses a score sheet containing all aspects of the dog. Overall Impression which contains A. Appearance, B Movement, C
Temperament; Head, Body, and Front & Rear Quarters. They have adopted AKC's conformation on most breeds with the exception
of colors and some grooming guidelines. They do however allow any color that they register. APRI Believes that if it
can be registered, then you should be able to show it. Many AKC people are coming, showing and enjoying the sportsmanship
at APRI. There a more relaxed atmosphere, good sportsmanship with other owners and showman that I have ever experienced.
I can say if it happens it is rare. Everyone is glad to see new people show and especially the children. My daughter
Skyllar started at age 7. She Championed her first dog at that time. Competition is strong
and they do not let faults slide. The most awesome thing that I have seen is that if there are 30 dachshunds entered,
each and every dog is judged individually against the breed standard by 2 separate Judges. They are not allowed
to see each others score. Another APRI representative adds the points together and the scores are announced at the end of
the show. Competition for Top dog is top one percent out of each Group. Each representative of that group is judged
against each other. The cool thing about this is 3 Judges have to score separately and again the places are added by a 3rd party.
If you have any questions about your scores you can ask the Judges and or The Show Director. I love most about APRI
Dog Shows You know each dog is Judged fairly on its own merit. If you are new into the ring the Judges will gladly help you
stack your dog and give you tips on how to better yourself and dog for it's next time out. As expensive as it is
today, I know when I go to an APRI Dog show I will get a shot at points for my dog if it meets the breed standard. I
do not have to worry about who leads it, bred it, or who owns the dog I am competing against. My dog if it performs
well and I did my work at home, my dog will earn it's points.
